The author, Mary McCollum, says her main theme in life has been that learning is fun. and there are always opportunities to learn, so life is fun. After raising a family, which provided lots of learning experiences, and pursuing a career in education she turned to learning how to live with lots of freedom and not much money.
Next on the list was to learn about long distance ocean passages; what were the possibilities,and what would she need .
Then there were all the unexpected events that made such travel a true adventure and indeed a great learning experience so of course it was fun.
